Discover Vietnamese Egg Coffee in Brussels: Hanoi’s Unique Creamy Coffee Tradition
We’re thrilled to introduce our newest drink at Kafei — the Iced Egg Coffee! inspired by the tradition Vietnamese egg coffee 🇻🇳☕
This unique creation combines a classic iced latte with a velvety egg cream layer on top, inspired by one of Hanoi’s most iconic beverages.
Iced Egg Coffee
A refreshing iced cup of Vietnamese Egg Coffee, layers of golden egg cream floating atop a cool, milky latte, perfectly capturing the blend of indulgence and freshness.
A bit of history:
Egg coffee first appeared in Hanoi in the 1940s, during the French colonial era. At the time, milk was scarce and expensive, so locals found a creative alternative — egg yolks. Nguyễn Văn Giảng, a bartender at the Sofitel Legend Metropole Hotel, crafted this drink in 1946 and later served it at his café on Hàng Gai Street, where it’s still beloved today by both locals and travelers alike.
The recipe remains beautifully simple: egg yolk and condensed milk, lightly whipped to create a creamy, sweet layer that perfectly balances the rich, bold flavor of Vietnamese coffee.
Our Kafei twist:
We’ve reimagined this traditional drink with a lighter touch — pairing the silky egg cream with an iced latte instead of a strong espresso shot. The result? A smooth, sweet, and creamy treat that brings a taste of Hanoi’s coffee culture right to Brussels.
Come try this nostalgic yet refreshing drink — a little sip of history in every cup.
